The Carbonzero Community Micro Grant (CCMG) program provides funding to registered charities and incorporated non-profits undertaking initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and create positive community impacts.
Program Overview
Carbonzero is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Carbonzero Community Micro Grant (CCMG) program. Launched in 2022, this annual grant provides up to $5,000 in funding to support community-based projects that aim to reduce GHG emissions but, require additional funding to be implemented.
Now in its fourth year, the CCMG program is part of Carbonzero’s broader commitment to helping Canadian communities take meaningful climate action while promoting local co-benefits at the project level.
Spotlight on 2024
In2024, Carbonzero supported the ByWard Market District Authority in Ottawa to pilot an innovative waste reduction initiative. With CCMG funding, they developed and implemented worm composting benches designed to process food waste generated by vendors and visitors at the historic market. This project exemplifies how grassroots solutions can creatively tackle methane emissions while engaging the public.
In previous years, the grant funded the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley to expand its Event Waste Management Strategy, achieving waste emissions reductions of up to 81% at major events including the BMW International Biathlon Union.
What Projects Are Eligible?
The CCMG program supports projects that contribute to GHG emissions reductions and offer meaningful community benefits such as education, accessibility, or waste diversion.
Examples of eligible projects include:
- Launching a facility-wide composting program, with funding directed to on-site vermicomposting equipment.
- Establishing a tool-sharing library to reduce consumption and emissions related to manufacturing and transportation.
- Installing an EV charger to support an electric vehicle used for meal deliveries by a local food bank.
Note: Only Canadian registered charities and incorporated not-for-profit organizations are eligible. Projects that receive the grant money must be fully implemented by August 31, 2026.
