NL Climate & Ecosystems Conservancy Project

Overview

The Newfoundland Climate and Ecosystems Conservancy Project (NCECP) is publicly listed on the CSA CleanProjects Registry and has been 3rd party verified under ISO-14064-2 by Fournier Toupin CPA Inc. The project is a greenhouse gas mitigation initiative through engineered wetland systems for wastewater treatment.

The resulting carbon offsets are the first ever to be generated in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The objective of this project is to treat wastewater and sludge from municipalities in an effective manner to eliminate the environmental impacts of discharging raw wastewater into watercourses and sea. The implemented wastewater treatment solution produces less greenhouse gases (GHG), methane in particular, than typical wastewater treatment systems.

This greenfield project aggregates the wastewater treatment installations for the towns of Appleton-Glenwood and the Municipality of Stephenville, Newfoundland, and as a grouped project, accounts for GHG reductions resulting from project activities that use the same technology.
