In partnership with Sharp Management... Introducing Newfoundland and Labrador's first homegrown carbon offset project!

The Newfoundland Climate and Ecosystems Conservancy Project (NCECP) is publicly listed on the CSA CleanProjects Registry and has been 3rd party verified under ISO-14064-2 by Fournier Toupin CPA Inc. The project is a greenhouse gas mitigation initiative through engineered wetland systems for wastewater treatment. The resulting carbon offsets are the first ever to be generated in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The objective of this project is to treat wastewater and sludge from municipalities in an effective manner to eliminate the environmental impacts of discharging raw wastewater into watercourses and sea. The implemented wastewater treatment solution requires much less energy and produces less greenhouse gases (GHG), methane in particular, than typical wastewater treatment systems.

This greenfield project regroups the wastewater treatment installations for the towns of Appleton-Glenwood and the Municipality of Stephenville, Newfoundland and as a grouped project, it aggregates GHG reductions resulting from project activities utilizing the same technology.

Project Type

Verified Emissions Reductions are achieved from each project through verification and validation that is specific to each project that mitigates climate change.

Carbonzero utilizes offset standards that are subject to the Voluntary Carbon Market. Click here for a list of the standards and their definitions.

This is the year in which the emissions reductions took place for a specific project. The quantity of carbon that has been offset are validated and verified by accredited GHG auditors.
