Carbonzero was founded in 2006 and has rapidly risen to become a leader in the design and implementation of corporate carbon reduction strategies and solutions in the emerging low carbon economy. Carbonzero helps transform organizations by aiding them in assessing, reporting, and reducing their emissions. Our approach, tools and services ensure that our clients can cost-effectively meet their carbon auditing reduction commitments while developing the framework for implementation of reduction activities.

David Sharpless brings to Carbonzero extensive executive, business and legal experience spanning 35 years. David spent more than twenty years practicing business law as a partner at a major Canadian law firm before embarking on a business career where he has been instrumental in the significant growth of several notable firms. David has recently been appointed Chairman of New Carbon Economy Fund Venture Management Inc., a significant shareholder of Carbonzero. He is a director of a number of public and private companies including e3 Solutions Inc., a director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Micromem Technologies Inc. (US and CNSX listed company); Chairman of the Independent Review Committee of Portland Investment (formerly AIC); and Chairman and CEO of Maverick Inc., a private investment and consulting firm.

David served at Hunter Keilty Muntz & Beatty Limited (HKMB) as Executive Chairman for Canada's largest privately owned property and casualty insurance broker. HKMB was purchased by HUB International Limited to form HKMB HUB International Limited in 2008. In 1997 David became Chairman of Newcourt Credit Group Inc. Following the sale of Newcourt to CIT Group Inc., David assumed the role of President of CIT's International Operations and left CIT in 2001 after its acquisition by Tyco. David is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and of the Directors College founded by the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University.

Over the past three decades, Les Gower has held numerous management and finance related positions. Les began his business career as a corporate lending officer with the Mercantile Bank of Canada. He has since held positions of Vice President Finance and Administration, General Manager, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, Corporate Secretary and President. Since 1995 as the principal of CFO Services, he has provided strategic and financial planning and management to companies across a range of industries including computer software, manufacturing, and distribution.

Dan Fraleigh brings to Carbonzero over 16 years of experience in areas ranging from technology and development to media and entertainment. Since 1997, he has been involved in managing and developing telecom and web-based projects for enterprise level companies including: Novartis, Mediconsult, and Rogers. A technology "greening" advocate and eco-motivated entrepreneur, Dan is adviser and/or board member to a number of environmentally focused and socially minded organizations including; SaveGreen, Live Green Toronto, Fashion Takes Action and Greenmom. As an accomplished performer and tv host, he has worked both in front and behind the camera with production companies including: Alliance Atlantis, Vision TV, ChumCity, CTV & Global.

Jessie Tuttle is in her fifth year of career development in the Sales and Marketing industry. As an Account Executive Jessie has organized and custom developed programs for a variety of clients in a broad spectrum of industry including; financial services, manufacturing, consumer packaged goods and media based companies both in Canada and Internationally. Her skill set includes; project management, special event planning and execution, client relations, program design and development, budgeting, sales and business development and media relations. Jessie brings to Carbonzero a wide ranging perspective based on her many experiences internationally including her participation in the marketing and merchandising program for the Rolling Stones European Tour in 2003.

Katie Altoft is an expert in carbon management and organizational sustainability, a subject that she teaches as a Professor of Environmental Management at the Centre for Environmental & Geomatics at Niagara College. For 15 years Katie has worked in a variety of roles in government, consulting and not-for profit leadership. With the Canadian Standards Association, she led the Canadian Advisory Committee for the ISO Climate Change Standards, as well as the public consultation process for several of the greenhouse gas quantification protocols for Natural Resources Canada. Through CSA, she worked with Fleet Challenge Canada to identify carbon reduction strategies. As the Director of Education for Earth Rangers, she focused on making environmental issues clear and understandable for all ages, and on motivating people to take action.

Katie holds an MBA in Business and Sustainability from the Schulich School of Business, and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo.

Howie Chong is the President of the Canadian Carbonzero Institute (CCI) and Founder of Carbonzero. A certified GHG emissions expert, Howie has been working with companies and organizations for nearly a decade in helping them assess and manage their environmental footprint, with over five years of experience in greenhouse gas emissions accounting, carbon markets and international climate policy. Howie has presented at international and Canadian conferences on climate change, carbon markets and climate policy and has served with several environmental organizations, including four years on the Board of the Sierra Club Canada. In 2008, Howie was named one of Canada’s Future Environmental Leaders by Green Living Magazine for his work as an entrepreneur in the new green economy. He holds a degree in environment and political science from McGill University.
